The Open Government Initiative (OGI) was established in 2008 by His Excellency Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma shortly after assuming political power in 2007. The institution has a Presidential mandate of promoting Democracy, Human Rights, the Rule of Law and Good Governance. It serves as link between the three arms of Government in addition to the Local Councils and citizens to ensure transparency, accountability and participation in governance processes: Bringing Government Closer to the People and the People Closer to the Government. Our core activities include the conduct of Town Hall meetings, radio/television dialogue sessions, seminar, symposia, and surveys in a bid to solicit citizens’ concerns for the intervention of decision/policy makers. The Open Government Initiative (OGI) has exemplarily conducted itself over the years in achieving optimal results in citizen’s engagement for the past years. However, the unprecedented outbreak of the Ebola disease had forestalled some of our activities. Before the outbreak, the OGI has been engaging both local and international like-minded institutions in promoting the tenets of good governance.
